Lionel was the fifth oldest of the eight children of Louis J.B LaFaive and Celima Germaine. Lionel, who has been known throughout his life as Leo was born on May 28, 1905, in Grand Marais, Michigan and moved to the Detroit area with his family in 1917. Leo was the last surviving member of the family of Louis J.B. LaFaive.
Leo continued his schooling in the Detroit area until reaching the tenth grade, when he quit to assist his father in the establishment of a business, but at the age of seventeen the superintendent of the Gratiot Street car line for the city of Detroit prevailed upon Leo to take a job on the streetcars. To acquire this employment Leo had to tell them he was twenty one yearsold. Leo continued as a street car conductor and a bus driver for twenty-five years, and retired at the age of forty-two. He then engaged in real estate sales for a short time after whichhe became a guard at the state prison in Jackson, Michigan. Leo continued in this employment for fifteen years until his second retirment.
Leo married Marie Florip in 1925 and had two children, Gerald, a son and a daughter named Donna Mae
Marie had been a telephone operator in Detroit until the time of their marriage and remained in this employment until her children were born at the late age of thirty-seven.
When Leo obtained employment at the state prison, he moved his family to Jackson, Michigan where they lived until his retirement.
Leo and Marie then moved to the state of Florida for a period of twelve years. Returning to Michigan they resided in the Wixom/Novi area of Michigan in the Co-op Leisure Apartments Complex near Twelve Mile and Grand River.
Leo and Marie celebrated 77 years of marriage prior to Marie's passing.
