Amelia was the oldest of the eight children of Louis And Celima LaFaive and was born in the upper peninsula of Michigan.
Amelia graduated from Grand Marais High School and attended Ferris State College, Big Rapids, in preparation for a teaching career. A student of art and music, she first gave music lessons in Grand Marais and then taught art and music at the school there in 1917 - 1918. In 1918, she left for Detroit where she was a supervisor at a Detroit Recreation Department Center for 25 years.
Amelia was married to Frank Christensen in 1925, and then to George Lovequest, a Detroit Lawyer. These unions did not result in children.
After retirement from the recreation department she enrolled at Wayne State and secured another teaching degree and then taught school 11 years in Centerline. During her many years teaching recreational courses (dance, music, art) for the City of Detroit, she was working under Miss Lottie McDermott, who had been a popular teacher in the Grand Marais schools before moving toDetroit. Miss McDermott served as head of women's recreation for the City of Detroit for many years.
After her second retirement she continued to stay active still driving a car into her 80's and living alone into her 90's. Amelia lived to the age of 102.
